Long Beach Community Garden Mission Statement

Mission

"The purpose of the Long Beach Community Garden Association is to promote gardening at a community level, to allow a sharing of common interest and to provide an opportunity for enjoyable recreation and fellowship."

Nothing in the garden mission statement suggests that only "little old ladies and gentlemen" who want to grow victory gardens need apply.

Why is our current board "policing" us instead of governing?

Why are some gardeners getting correction notices and being asked to leave when our bylaws speak of friendly notices that will not count towards expulsion.

"2 kale plants - not enough"

"planting SEEDS? - not allowed "

" you have too much of a berry crop*- not allowed"

None of these are rule or bylaw violations but they have been used to ask "undesirables" to leave the garden.

At the same time others are allowed to violate rules year after year.

REMEMBER THE GARDEN BELONGS TO THE GARDENERS NOT THE BOARD

* Rules not enforced against board members - have a look at Joanne Rice's two plots (the trial garden and the plot to the south) and read our "rule" about flowers.

* Find another board members plot with 80% cole crop - win a big kudos.

* See "News" Page for the definition of a "crop"
